Policy and Government Reporters

Ima Sekin D'Mony, a lawyer and journalist, was an undergraduate major in history. She knows a great deal about county and state politics. As the investigative reporter for the newspaper, she goes about Trenton and New Brunswick to find answers to questions.

Luke Ouit Furtuth is a journalist that graduated as did D'Mony with an undergraduate degrees in history and journalism. His efforts are often directed to finding environmental problems and solutions.

Assignment

As background, you will answer general questions that Pete Peterson posed to everyone at the first meeting. Some of the research can be incorporated into your report. Then in your article, you will answer specific questions that you were assigned.

As Government and Policy reporters, your job is to address what government can do and is doing.

You need to identify the key players in mosquito control in the state and county.

After answering the basic question, the newspaper editor has asked the government reporters to find out how the laws are promoting mosquito control. What are the New Jersey laws that govern mosquito control? Are there Mosquito Control (sometimes called Extermination) Commissions in all counties in New Jersey? Does Middlesex County have a MCC? What is its history.

Research your area of responsibility. (Use Internet sources, library resources, and interviews)

Take notes on answering the questions posed; see if other questions should be asked (add these questions)

Write an article of 700 to 1000 words on your topic. Your first draft should include all references either as end notes or in the body of the text. Your final copy can put these as end notes to give to the Editor.

Measure your report against the rubric (evaluation chart) provided. Make any needed alterations to improve your report.
