Problem Scenario:

It is 1945.The Post Tribune Newspaper, which serves your community and the surrounding area, found that a waitress in the local bagel and sandwich shop had contracted Malaria, a disease that everyone thought had been conquered. It is part of a wider upsurge in malaria cases, so much so that there were more malaria cases in New Jersey in 1945 and other years of the 40s than at any time records were kept. The community is upset and concerned that the outbreak will lead to widespread disease.

The Post-Tribune editor, Pete Peterson, called a team of crack reporters together. He has assigned them to investigate the problem and to write a series of articles on the problem, solutions, and actions local and state government have taken to stem the increase in malaria. Pete also wants reports on what people can do to protect themselves from exposure.

You will be assigned to become one of the reporters listed below and to follow the links of your assignment. First you will learn about your role, and then your task. There are resources which you can use to carry out your task. Most all the resources can be found on the web, and additional resources, should you choose to use them, are available at libraries.
After completing your research and report, you can measure the quality of your work against a Rubric (a scale of value) found on your evaluation webpage. Below are the reporters that Pete called into the newspaper conference room.
